One of the driving forces behind the recent successes of the Dutch men’s team is sponsor Fairtree, an investment manager that, although originating in South Africa, also has major interests in Europe and elsewhere. Fairtree is also closely associated with the Gary Kristen Cricket Academy in Cape Town. Several years ago Kobus Nel was introduced to Dutch cricket. Since then, a lot of steps have been taken towards a more professional set-up and cricket infrastructure. An exclusive interview with the Fairtree Group CEO.
What is the philosophy behind the Fairtree sponsorship?
“Fairtree, a global investment manager rooted in South Africa, has long invested in the development of cricket at grassroots levels and, in 2018, expanded our focus with the commencement of our partnership with Gary Kirsten Cricket (GKC), a world-leading cricket academy established by international cricket legend, Gary Kirsten in South Africa.”
“In 2021 we entered into a partnership with The Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB). As a global business, we take great pride in being the official partner of the Dutch Men’s Cricket Team and actively supporting the KNCB’s vision of developing and elevating cricket in the Netherlands. This aligns with our mission of creating an environment for individuals to flourish and reach their full potential.”
Why did Fairtree choose to specifically support Dutch cricket?
“Over the years, we have been inspired by the personal and professional growth demonstrated by the members of the Dutch Men’s Cricket team. We firmly believe that their success is derived from their unwavering passion and sense of purpose. Cricket, above all, epitomises teamwork, where every player’s contribution combines to create an outcome that surpasses the sum of its parts. We witness this spirit every time the Dutch Men’s Cricket Team steps onto the field, representing their country with pride as they compete at the highest level.”
“Regarding their recent successes, particularly at the T20 World Cup and the recent ODI win over the West Indies, we attribute them to a culture of hard work, dedication, and team spirit. Alongside exceptional coaching and sponsorship support, we are confident that the team will continue to exceed expectations. Their outstanding performance at the Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2022 and subsequent matches including the historical win over the West Indies solidify our belief in their commitment to the team and unwavering passion for the game.”
“It is an honour to be part of the growth journey of both the individuals and the team as they continue to inspire the expansion of cricket in the Netherlands. Cricket is an incredible sport that unites people from diverse backgrounds. The KNCB’s vision to develop and promote the game in the Netherlands while fostering unity among all cricket-loving Dutch residents remains a fundamental pillar of our collaboration.”
